Heinrich Khunrath was an Alchemist. He was also a German physician and a hermetic philosopher. He wrote the book, Amphitheatrum sapientiae aeternae (Amphitheater of Eternal Wisdom).

It is a book on alchemy designed in a circle. This gorgeous Esoteric print was created in 1595. It is one of four plates from the book.

When you click on the image, you can see the gorgeous detail that went into this illustration. Look closely and you will see the image representing the union of the divine with the earthly. This is believed to ensure the wheels of creation continue to spin freeing it from matter.

Apparently Christians borrowed the belief of the divine and earthy union as Christ (divine) born from the union of Jehovah from Mary (human).
